Automated Garbage Pickup - Charlotte County has extended the existing contract with Waste Management to include once-a-week automated garbage pickup.  This change, which goes into effect on October 1, will allow the County to reduce costs and to provide waste pickup in a more efficient manner. The automated pickup will require a special garbage cart which will be supplied free of charge.  The cost savings for the first year are expected to be $1.26 million and will reduce road travel by almost 295,000 miles annually.  Click here for more details on the program and to see a demonstration of the automated garbage pickup.

Foreclosure Assistance -   Foreclosure assistance is available to households in Charlotte County.  This assistance includes funds for mortgage payments up to $5,000 and/or negotiation with the mortgage lender to prevent foreclosure.  To find out more, contact the Housing Corporation at 941.255.9454 or go on-line to www.housingcorpcc.org.

TO ALL:

This is to inform you that there is a boat census under way by the University of Florida , Florida Sea Grant College Program.  You may see a small 17 foot Key West center console or 13 foot Boston Whaler Sport with the University of Florida and Florida  Sea Grant Logo in our canals.

I have verified the information with the Florida Sea Grant Marine Agent for Charlotte County, Betty Staugler (941-764-4340).

The small boat crew members are visiting principal waterways of the county, including canal systems, marinas, creeks and  rivers. They record information to verify vessel draft, such as make/model, length, vessel types and estimated age, as wellas the registration number. The data is logged in a GPS, along with each vessel's position.

The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission Division of Law Enforcement (Captain Dennis Grealish, 239-332-6966), the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and Punta Gorda Police Department are aware of the project.

If you would like more information about the Regional Waterway Management System go to:

Hope this answers your concerns if you see one of these vessels. Please pass this information on to your neighbors.
