ARBOR DAY - January 24, 2009

After several cold days, the day we chose, Saturday, January 24, 2009 for our 4th annual Arbor Day turned out to be beautiful.

The day started off with the CCT’s annual meeting at 11:30, which was open to the public.

We had a couple of special guests this year that attended our event.  Ms. Allison Turner from Charlotte County’s Extension office presented us with a sign that indicates we have acquired the Sliver Palmetto status as a Florida Friendly Yards garden.  We had to meet several requirements to acquire this status.  Doc Pickhardt, also from Charlotte County, spoke about the different seminars that he will be doing at the garden and went over the Mango plantings that will take place along our shoreline.

We also dedicated the Royal Poinciana tree to honor Sarah and Darell Dunagan for all of their contributions and support to the garden over the last couple of years.

Mr. Jack Yee and his committee had the grilled started and after the dedication we started serving Hot Dogs, Chips, Drink and Cookies to about 80 guests until 2:00 pm.
